Discover Clyde Muirshiel on Screen

Clyde Muirshiel Park was awarded £16,436 in Leader grant to help deliver this project. The Park is a special protection area for Hen Harriers and the project was designed to give this rare and iconic species a much higher public profile and help protect/sustain the population in this area. High quality cameras were installed at one of the nesting sites and relayed to be viewed by visitors to the centre. The ‘wildlife on screen’ project was very successful with tourists, locals and local school children and helped increase awareness and understanding of local wildlife, habitats and the environment in general.

Junior Fire Reach Programme

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue (SFR) was awarded £14,600 in Leader grant to help deliver the Junior Fire Reach Programme to parts of the rural area in Renfrewshire. The concept was to open the doors of the local community fire station, or other community premises, and offer young people the opportunity to undertake training with their local fire fighters. The project enabled SFR to engage with young people and, through this innovative intervention programme, create a greater understanding between young people and the fire fighters of the importance of the service in their community and over the longer term reduce the level of fire-raising and attacks on staff when attending incidents.

Rural Renfrewshire and Me

Scrumptious productions was awarded £2,300 in Leader grant to help them deliver a 6 week film and education initiative which trained young people in camera and editing techniques. With these skills the young people were then challenged to create a documentary film of their own to highlight their view of the positive and negative aspects of rural living The team of young people taking part produced an excellent film which focussed on rural development and not only put forward their own visions for change but also the views of many from the wider local communities. This was a challenging but very rewarding experience for those taking part which hopefully will inform the need for change in those areas.

Round Bishopton Walking Path

Bishopton Community Council was awarded £4,500 in Leader grant to help fund a design study for a new path route around Bishopton. Due to the historical development of the village, Bishopton currently has no paths which can form a cohesive, safe walking route either round the village or to and from neighbouring villages. There was strong support for this project from local GP’s, Renfrewshire Council’s Walking Coordinator and other walking groups.

LSR was awarded £13,280 in Leader grant to help fund the improvement of Langbank Play Park. Their aim was to create a social area for all generations to enjoy, creating a heart to the community.
